Senator Mike Padden - 4th Legislative District

Not seeking reelection

Senator Padden has spent a lifetime serving his community. As a 42-year resident of Washington, Padden has raised a family with his wife Laura and has truly gotten to know the region inside and out.

During the legislative session, Senator Padden is the Republican Leader of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, and also serves on both the Senate Transportation Committee and the Senate Health and Long-Term Care Committee.

Mike was elected to the House in 1980 and served for 14 years, being reelected by voters for seven terms. Before returning to the Senate in 2011, Senator Padden served his community in a variety of ways.

In March of 1995, he was appointed Spokane County District Court judge and maintained the role for three terms as a result of county elections. In 2008, Senator Padden was appointed as a Judicial Outreach Liaison to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Through this experience, he supervised traffic safety issues in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
