Senator Linda Evans Parlette represents the 12th Legislative District, which encompasses the Chelan area. Senator Parlette served two terms in the House before her election to the Senate in 2000. Linda works as a pharmacist and orchardist when not in session. Senator Parlette graduated with honors from Washington State University. She currently resides in Wenatchee with her husband, Bob. Together, they have five grown children and two granddaughters.

On health care, don't start from scratch

Last June, the Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Costs and Access, of which I am a member, convened its first meeting with hopes to create "bold" changes in our health care system.
At the start, I urged the members not to reinvent the wheel, but instead look at improving the current system and redirecting our existing resources. I also emphasized the need to define what insurance means, and the role government and the individual plays in obtaining health insurance. By doing that, we could better frame the debate. Finally, I encouraged the commission to evaluate proposals on whether they lower costs, expand choice and increase competition.
